The Collective CORES

ACTING CORE

Our Acting Core offers the most pre-professional training experience available in Pittsburgh. This intensive program focuses on elevating young actors through high-level technique, scene study, and performance opportunities. Students in the Acting Core will perform in our end-of-semester play, applying their training in a fully realized production.

In addition, Acting Core students are placed in our exclusive CORE CLASS rotation, which includes month-long masterclasses in acting a monologue, scene study, and acting a song—ensuring a well-rounded and professional approach to the craft. With a competitive, industry-level curriculum, the Acting Core is essential for any serious actor aiming to take their work to the next level.

MUSIC THEATRE CORE

Our Music Theatre Core delivers a cutting-edge, pre-professional experience for young performers passionate about musical theatre. Combining focused training in acting, voice, and dance with opportunities to perform in high-level productions, this Core cultivates versatile, dynamic artists. Music Theatre Core students will perform in our end-of-semester musical, bringing their full skillset to the stage in a professional-quality show.

Participants are also placed in our exclusive CORE CLASS rotation, featuring month-long masterclasses in acting a song, acting a monologue, and scene study—key tools for the well-rounded musical theatre performer. With a competitive, industry-ready curriculum, this program prepares students to succeed in today’s musical theatre world.

PLAYWRITING CORE

Our Playwriting Core offers a brand-new workshop experience for young writers ready to bring their original stories to life. Students will develop and write their own short plays, which will be featured in our One-Act Festival at the end of the semester—produced in collaboration with fellow Collective actors and student directors.

Writers will participate in two core classes:

  • Playwriting Lab – Focused on script development, structure, and storytelling.

  • Playwriting Workshop – Where scenes are brought to life through table reads, staging, and hands-on collaboration with actors and directors.

Rehearsals for the One-Act Festival begin in halfway through the semester, culminating in a showcase of student work.

The Playwriting Core is ideal for students looking to explore voice, structure, and the art of transforming words from page to stage.

SHOWCASES

In addition to participating in our major productions and One-Act Festivals at the end of the semester, Collective CORE students also have the opportunity to participate in THREE Collective Showcases throughout the semester!

Our Monthly Showcases are pre-planned performance opportunities designed to highlight student work and foster a sense of community and growth. Each showcase features material from the current Core Class rotation, updates or readings from Playwriting Core, and optional performance slots for students to present a song or monologue they’ve been working on independently.
